Recmar REC6FP-12411-00 Thermostat

A thermostat is a component that detects the temperature of a system so that the system’s temperature keeps it closed to the desired setpoint. This thermostat is a valve in the cooling system of an outboard that opens or closes based on temperature. The circulation of cooling water through the outboard is interrupted when the thermostat is closed, which causes the motor’s operating temperature to rise. The faulty thermostats don’t break down gradually it stop working, shut off when it malfunctions, cutting off the supply of coolant to the outboard. It will occasionally fail in the open position or be clogged by corrosion or debris, thus allowing coolant to continuously flow through the motor regardless of whether the outboard needs it or not.
